Description

At PADUCAH LASIK CENTER, Dr. Bowers performs refractive procedures that are FDA approved. The most popular way to correct vision is with a procedure known as LASIK, which uses a laser to change the curvature of the cornea (outer window of the eye). LASIK has quickly become the procedure of choice for most patients because they recover quickly and have fewer side effects and complications than with other methods of vision correction. In fact, most LASIK patients notice a significant improvement in their vision hours after surgery. LASIK removes tissue within the cornea to treat low to high levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. With the newest technology, we are now able to treat even wider ranges of refractive errors safely with outstanding results. This means that people who were not LASIK candidates with older technology may now be able to enjoy freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

  • BLADELESS CATARACT SURGERY

Dr. Barbara Bowers was excited to be the first surgeon in Kentucky and the tri-state region to offer bladeless, computer-guided laser cataract surgery. This technologically advanced alternative to manual cataract surgery began a new era of cataract surgery innovation! You can now relax knowing that most of the important steps of cataract surgery are performed without blades and with unsurpassed precision! Standard manual cataract surgery is a complex surgical procedure with an excellent track record for safety. Even in the hands of the best surgeons, there is some variability in how each step is performed. This variability leads to a variety of outcomes usually resulting in the need for eyeglasses following surgery. With Bladeless Laser Assisted Refractive Cataract Surgery, a 3-D scan of your eye is obtained and a customized surgical plan is designed by the surgeon on the computer. Once all the specifications unique to your eye are programmed, a state-of-the-art LenSx Laser system uses a laser to perform each of the most challenging steps. The laser creates the surgical incision, treats astigmatism, opens the lens capsule to allow access to the cataract, and then breaks up the cataract for removal. All of these steps allow for more precise placement of the lens implant. To see a short video explaining the difference between traditional and Bladeless Cataract Surgery, click on the video above. After your cataract is removed, an intra-ocular lens (IOL) implant is placed in the eye to replace your natural lens. This IOL can be upgraded to a Premium lens implant of which there are several options depending on your lifestyle. These premium IOLs can provide freedom from prescription glasses and even reading glasses. With TORIC astigmatism correcting IOLs and/or the LenSx Laser, your distance vision can be fully corrected meaning no need for prescription glasses. Implanting MULTIFOCAL IOLs will allow distance and near vision without the need for glasses. The latest advancements in premium lifestyle lens technology provide enhanced vision quality and a full range of vision. This gives you the opportunity to live free of glasses. Cataract surgery is a short outpatient procedure and most patients return to their daily activities the next day. The result? Optimized, customized vision without the need for glasses –– all with no needles, no stitches, no patch and no blades! Dr. Bowers has been performing premium lens surgery since 1998 and was the first surgeon in our region to offer this innovative technology when she moved to Paducah in 1999. She remains one of the leading premium IOL implant surgeons in the United States.

Dr. Bowers uses the safest, fastest, most comfortable and most precise advanced technology to perform your LASIK procedure. Our Refractive Suite includes the FDA approved Wavelight Excimer Laser combined with the Lens Sx Femtosecond laser. This platform offers unsurpassed safety, precision and results! The laser system a surgeon uses to perform your LASIK procedure plays a huge part in your final visual outcome. Over the years, LASIK technology has advanced, and visual acuity and visual function has significantly improved. With each new generation of technology came a solution to a problem that old technology could not address. Improved accuracy, improved safety, and shorter treatment times have all led to vision beyond 20/20. The older generations of laser technology are still FDA approved and in use all across the U.S. While this technology is still capable of freeing you from glasses and contacts, your quality of vision and chances of 20/20 or better vision are severely compromised. It is important to do your research and select a center that invests in the most advanced technology, to ensure yourself the best possible postoperative vision. The lasers that Dr. Bowers uses at PADUCAH LASIK CENTER are the most advanced, fastest, safest, most precise, FDA approved lasers in the world.

  • REFRACTIVE LENS SURGERY

Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a procedure to reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses. It is an alternative to Laser vision correction and may be the procedure of choice for those over the age of 40 who desire freedom from glasses at all distances. It corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and even presbyopia. Presbyopia is a progressive condition typically requiring individuals over the age of 40 to become dependent on reading glasses or bifocals segments in their glasses to see things at near, like reading, sewing and computer activities. While laser vision correction like LASIK corrects vision by reshaping the cornea, RLE corrects vision by replacing the eye’s natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL) of the appropriate power customized to each individual eye. Each IOL is customized using the patient’s unique ocular measurements and the IOL calculated for each eye is implanted into the eye during a 7-8 minute surgery. It can correct all refractive errors, allowing a lifetime of freedom from glasses!
